Fruit and Vegetable Printing
Materials Needed
Fruits & vegetables
Knife & cutting board
Paintbrushes
Paint
Old containers for water to wash brushes
Card stock paper
Plastic knives (optional)
Fabric tea towels or napkins (optional)
Purpose: Fruits and vegetables can serve as a creative medium for art. If you have produce that's close to spoiling and you’re unlikely to eat it, this is a fantastic way to repurpose it. Give students different cut fruits and paint and let their creativity take them the rest of the way. They can either paint directly onto the fruit or vegetable and use it as a stamp, or they can carve intricate designs with a plastic knife to create their own custom stamp. Wherever their imagination takes them it’s exciting to see the different ways they use the food to make art.
Instructions
The class will begin with a short presentation to give the students some ideas about how they can use the fruits and vegetables in different ways (Art Inspiration Presentation)
Hand out and out the card stock paper, paints, and water
Each table will get a few fruits and vegetables and they can get started on making their pieces of art
For an added creative touch, printing the fruits and vegetables onto fabric, such as tea towels or napkins, is a great way to elevate this fun art project
