Update heading into the Holiday Season

Although this year is going to be different than years’ past, the holiday season is fast approaching like usual. For Beaverton Food Project, the past couple months have been a flurry of setting up pantries and fridges, reaching out the community, working together, and most certainly…. learning as we go! As we head into December, it is important that we evaluate what we have accomplished so far, so we can prepare for the year ahead!

So far, we have have set up a system of free food pantries and fridges that reaches throughout out community allowing our community to share food around the clock. By the end of this month, we will have 11 different sites, including 3 different fridges! We have been able to work alongside other local food organizations, such as Westside Food Brigade and Terra Nova School of Sustainability, as well as map out the food resources that are always available to our community.

Looking forward, we want to continue to reach out to people and organizations in our community, maintain the system we have created so far, and continue to grow. We are always looking for volunteers and free food pantry / fridge hosts! Furthermore, we want to instill the importance of food literacy and education within out mission as they are inherently intertwined.

That being said, it is important that we make sure that despite the craziness of the holidays we remember to take care of our neighbours. This can be done by volunteering to check in on fridges, bringing food to share, or even just letting people know about this food resource that exists to support our community.

Happy Winter to all. As always… Come through to give what you can, and take what you want!
